Versant Power customers to see standard offer supply prices rise

Release Date:  11-20-2024

The Maine Public Utilities Commission has announced that on Jan. 1, 2025, supply prices will increase for all Versant Power customers who receive Standard Offer Service.

The current rate for residential and small-class customers in Versant Power’s Maine Public District is 11.29 cents per kilowatt-hour. It will increase to 11.65 cents per kilowatt-hour. The current rate in the Bangor Hydro District is 10.26 cents per kilowatt-hour and it will increase to 10.56 cents per kilowatt-hour.

The total bill impact for a typical residential customer using 500 kilowatt-hours per month will be an increase of about $1.84 per month in the Maine Public District and about $1.50 for the Bangor Hydro District. For a residential customer using 750 kilowatt-hours per month, the total bill will increase by about $2.70 per month in MPD and $2.25 for BHD, and residential customers using 1,000 kilowatt-hours per month will be an increase of about $3.60 per month in the Maine Public District and $3.00 per month for the Bangor Hydro District.

Medium-class customers in both districts will see standard offer supply prices change month to month. The 2025 weighted average rate will be 15.02 cents per kilowatt-hour for the Maine Public District and 10.39 cents per kilowatt-hour for Bangor Hydro District.

For large, non-residential MPD customers, the weighted average rate starting Jan. 1, 2025 will be 17.76 cents per kilowatt-hour. The Standard Offer prices for the large non-residential class for the Bangor Hydro District will be indexed to wholesale market prices and will be set in advance of each month.

The standard offer rate is determined through a bid process conducted by the Maine Public Utilities Commission. Versant Power does not generate this electricity, nor does it make a profit from it; however, we are required to bill for it as a direct pass-through to our customers. We maintain the poles, wires, substations, and other equipment that make safe and reliable delivery possible.

The Versant Power team is committed to ensuring we connect customers with the proper resources. We offer payment plans and can provide contact information for local resources who can offer further guidance and assistance.

Additionally, we offer the following programs and services: LifeLight Program, Low Income Assistance Program (LIAP), Oxygen Pump Benefit, Arrearage Management Program and Budget Billing. Customers can learn more about these programs and services by visiting https://www.versantpower.com/residential/programs-and-services/.

Maine customers can choose who provides their electricity supply. The Standard Offer Service is the default supplier, which is put out to bid and managed by the Maine Public Utilities Commission. Because electricity supply is a competitive market, standard offer prices may go up and down depending on market conditions and bids received.
