100th Anniversary

Versant Anniversary H Logo Color

This summer marks Versant Power's 100th anniversary, and we're celebrating 100 years of providing safe and reliable power to northern and eastern Maine.

‌Our timeline began when the Bangor Hydro-Electric Company was organized in the summer of 1924.  Four years later, in 1928, the Maine Public Service Company was founded. In 2001, Bangor Hydro became part of Emera Inc., which later acquired the Maine Public Service Company in 2010. The two companies formally merged as one utility in 2014, which is now Versant Power.

Timeline

Throughout 2024, you'll see historical information, customer features, and even special giveaways.

To engage the community and customers, we’re awarding ten $10,000 grants to local non-profits, for a total of $100,000. We received more than 200
applications. Thank you to all who applied! Our Versant Power employees voted and selected the following organizations. Congratulations to the winners:

  • Aroostook House of Comfort – Presque Isle
  • Bangor Humane Society – Bangor
  • Central Aroostook Humane Society – Presque Isle
  • Habitat for Humanity – Orland
  • Hope and Justice – Presque Isle
  • Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry – Ellsworth
  • Maine Youth Fish & Game Association – Milford
  • Ronald McDonald House Charities – Bangor
  • Sarah’s House of Maine – Holden

We got out in the community and visited an 8th generation family farm in Edmunds, Tide Mill Organic Farm. You can check out their testimonial video here:
